What Condition Do Items Need to Be In?
Products must be returned in undamaged condition with all original accessories, cables, and packaging. Opened items can be returned but must be in like-new condition. Apple may inspect returned devices.

Apple gives you 14 days from purchase or delivery to return most products for a full refund with no restocking fee. That is one of the shortest windows of any major retailer, but the trade-off is simplicity: no restocking fees, free return shipping, and Apple can look up your purchase with just your Apple ID.
Engraved products can be returned, but they cannot be exchanged. If you bought an AirPods case with someone's name on it, you can return it for a refund, but you can't swap it for a different color or configuration. You'd get your money back and start from scratch with a new order. Most people assume personalized items are final sale, but they're not. They're refund-only.
Apple can look up nearly any purchase via your Apple ID, the original credit card used, or your order number. Physical receipts are optional. If you bought something as a gift through someone else's Apple ID, the return gets trickier. You'd need them to initiate it, or bring proof of purchase to a store and speak with a manager.
Carrier-financed iPhones follow the carrier's return policy, not Apple's. If you buy an iPhone on a payment plan through AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile at an Apple Store, you may need to visit a carrier store to process the return. The clock may start from a different date, and the terms can differ from Apple's standard 14 days. Confirm before you leave the store which entity owns the return relationship.
Holiday purchases from November 12 through December 25 can be returned through January 8. This gives gift recipients time to return or exchange after the holiday, even if they don't know the purchase date.
