Common Questions About Target Returns
The Full Picture: Target Returns
Target's standard return window is 90 days, extended to 120 days for RedCard (Target Circle Card) holders. The RedCard adds 30 days across the board: the 30-day electronics window becomes 60 days, and Apple products go from 15 days to 45 days. The card has no annual fee, and even if you rarely use it for purchases, just having it changes your return rights on everything.
Target-owned brands get a full 365-day return window with a receipt. Cat & Jack, Threshold, Room Essentials, Goodfellow & Co., A New Day, All in Motion, Opalhouse, and Brightroom all qualify. That matters if you buy a lamp, move to a new apartment three months later, and decide it doesn't fit the space. Check the label before you give up on a late return.
Target's Drive Up return service is genuinely convenient and underused. Start the return in the Target app, drive to the store, and a team member comes to your car. You don't park, you don't walk in, you don't stand at Guest Services. For bulky or multiple items, this is the easiest in-person return experience at any major retailer.
Without a receipt, Target uses a system that looks up purchases via credit card or debit card, but it has a lookup limit. If you can't be found in the system and don't have a receipt, you'll get a merchandise return card (store credit) at the item's current selling price. That's fine if you want to buy something else there, but it's not a cash refund.
Mobile phones have a 14-day window with no extension, even for RedCard holders. A phone bought on December 1st needs to be back by December 15th, full stop. Electronics more broadly are 30 days, doubled to 60 for RedCard holders.
