Nordstrom has no official time limit on returns. They handle each return on a case-by-case basis with the goal of making customers happy. That flexibility is real, but Nordstrom tracks your complete purchase and return history, and customers who consistently return a high percentage of what they buy will find the flexibility decreasing over time.
For most shoppers, the practical reality is this: if you bought something three months ago and just haven't gotten around to returning it, Nordstrom will almost certainly take it back. Nordstrom Rack has a completely separate policy: 40 days for online purchases and 30 days for in-store purchases. Items must be returned to Nordstrom Rack locations, not full-line Nordstrom stores. The inventory systems are separate, and the staff at full-line stores genuinely cannot process Rack returns.
